With world class infrastructure, modern technologies, vibrant entrepreneurs and a great work force, Tamil Nadu, is a leader in the MSME sector” said Mr P Benjamin, Hon’ble Minister for Rural Industries including Cottage Industries, Small Industries, Government of Tamil Nadu in his inaugural address at the MSME CEO Summit 2018.

The summit was organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and carried the Theme “Enabling Business Owners for the Future”.

 Speaking at the summit, Hon’ble Minister also said, “The State has 1.8 million registered MSME units providing employment opportunities to more than 11.5 million people.”

He mentioned the various subsidies and new initiatives taken by the State Government to further boost the MSME sector of the State.

 “Through the recently launched Online Single Window MSME portal which enables the entrepreneurs to apply and obtain approvals, licenses and renewals, in a time bound and transparent manner, 80 out of 125 applications filed with Rs.240.35 crores of investment have been approved” said Mr P Benjamin.

The Minister also welcomed the entire MSME community to participate in the second edition of the Tamil Nadu Global Investors’ Meet, to be held on the 23rd and 24th of January 2019, at Chennai.

 Mr M Ponnuswami, Chairman, CII Tamil Nadu State Council in his address said that the overall growth of the MSME sector will translate into more employment and holistic development of the economy.

He also spoke about recent developments in the MSME sector and the various measures taken by CII in line with the government to empower the MSMEs by collaborating with various institutions to cater to the MSME’s needs.

 Mr Ponnuswami highlighted  various CII initiatives taken up for the development of MSMEs such as; the SME Finance Facilitation Center for handholding support for MSMEs on financing; CII Technology Facilitation Centre (TFC); CEO Mentoring Sessions besides SME Cluster initiatives on improving the competitiveness of SMEs.

 He said that CII in line with the vision of State Government, has taken several measures to empower the MSMEs by collaborating with key stakeholders concerned.

 Mr Dharmendra Pratap Yadav, IAS, Secretary to the Government, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Department, Government of Tamil Nadu said that MSME sector in Tamil Nadu has huge potential for growth as the State offers a conducive environment supported by innovative schemes for growth of MSMEs.

 Mr Yadav informed that to support the micro, small and medium enterprises in the state and help them to grow, the Government has come out with a new initiative – Innovation Voucher Programme (IVP). It is targeted to benefit 400 MSMEs every year to improve their business and promote their innovative ideas and products.

The programme is in two categories – Voucher A – entry into research with a financial aid of Rs.2 lakhs and voucher B entry into market with a financial aid of Rs.5 lakhs to turn the ideas into products. The first of its kind programme in the country is aimed to encourage innovations in MSME sector and convert them into innovative products or services which are commercially viable.

It also aimed to encourage and sustain collaboration between industry, academia and government, the Secretary added.

Mr V R Mahadevan, Chairman, CII Chennai Zone;  Mr X Arokianathan, Convenor, MSME Panel, CII Chennai Zone and Mr Karthikeyan M, Co-Convenor, MSME Panel, CII Chennai Zone also spoke at the inaugural session.

 The networking Summit for MSME CEOs served as a platform to enable the Business Leaders from MSMEs to understand the various needs of a Business and to improve their business in order to compete globally.
