Captain N S Mohan Ram (Retd), an Auto Industry veteran and former President of TVS Motor Company, launched his book ‘Recycling of End of Life Automobiles – With Special Focus on India and Developing Nations’ in Chennai on the 26th of September.

The first copy of the book was presented by Dr. Sumantran, Chairman, Celeris Technologies to Mr. C SamayamoorthyIASTransport Commissioner/State Transport Authority, Government of Tamil Nadu as Mr. M K SurappaVice Chancellor, Anna University, presided over the event.

Sponsored by TVS Motor Company, the book offers a comprehensive account of the automobile recycling systems in developed countries vis-à-vis the current scenario in developing nations and presents a future road map for India.

At a time when India faces the enormous challenge of meeting the stipulations of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, this one-of-a-kind book, with focus on sustainability, legal framework and challenges with relevant case studies, provides invaluable insights to policy makers, automobile and auto ancillary manufactures as well as the auto recycling industry.

It is of special interest to academia and students of Automobile Engineering and Environmental Engineering and Sciences.

Providing an overview of the automobile recycling sector, Captain N S Mohan Ram (Retd) added India is currently the world’s largest manufacturer of two wheelers and the 4thlargest in production of cars.  It is well on the way to meet the Automotive Mission Plan 2016-26 of tripling output within a decade.   In stark contrast to its world-class, world-scale automotive manufacturing the country operates primitive systems of  scrapping vehicles. The informal industry for scrapping old vehicles, located in crowded residential areas, have neither the capacity nor the capability to tackle the huge increase in end-of-life vehicles which will be generated in the near future.”

Thanking Mr. Venu Srinivasan, for contributing the foreword, Captain N S Mohan Ram (Retd) said “TVS Motor Company has always been an environmentally conscious and sustainable company. They have earned accolades for going the full mile to incorporate sustainable practices in manufacturing processes, workspace and product lines.  I am truly honoured to have Mr. Srinivasan contribute to the foreword of this book and also express my deep gratitude to TVS Motor Company for sponsoring the book.”

Captain N S Mohan Ram (Retd) formerly President of TVS Motor Company and now a full-time consultant with TVS Motor Company, has headed the industry panel in the Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers (SIAM) from its inception.

He has traveled world over studying automotive recycling systems and processes in both developed and developing nations.

The author has spent three decades in the industry and is recognised as a well-known expert on automotive recycling.  His book promises to be a ready-reckoner for industry professionals, policy makers, environmental specialists and academicians.
