While inaugurating the Spanish Film Festival in Chennai on February 17, 2020, Mr. Antony Lobo, Hon. Consul of Spain, Chennai, said among the European Union nations, Spain has become an attractive destination for the Indian tourists. Spain also emerges a major centre of attraction for the Indian film industry.

Ever since the Indian films were shot in Spain, there has been a major increase in the number of Indian visitors year after year. While the population of Spain is just 42 million, the number of tourists visiting the nation is about 83 million, making it one of the most popular destinations after France. He also recalled the journey of popular Spanish films in the last few decades which won several awards including Oscar Award.

Mr. Bruno Plasse, Executive Director, Indo-French Cultural Centre, Chennai, in his brief address, praised the organisers for promoting cultural relationship between India and Spain.

Mr. Ranganathan J., Myanmar Consulate General in Chennai, who was the Guest of Honour on the occasion, felicitated the organisers for successfully conducting the Spanish Film Festival in a grand manner.

Ms. Sukanya Ramesh, Cine Artiste, delivered the special address.

Earlier, Mr. E. Thangaraj, General Secretary – Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation, and Festival Director – Chennai International Film Festival, welcomed the gathering and also felicitated the distinguished guests.
