Mr. C. K. Ranganathan, Chairman, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Southern Region, congratulated Thiru M. K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, for launching the Meendum Manjapai initiative – people’s campaign against single use plastic pollution and revert to using the traditional yellow cloth bag. The Meendum Manjalpai mission will save our environment and contribute towards sustainable future.
This initiative is a step towards elimination of those toxic plastic covers. As a responsible citizen, let us ensure we get rid of single use plastics once for all. Also, he requested Chief Minister that these bags get manufactured in rural Tamil Nadu which will help in developing rural economy.
Dr. Chandrakumar, Chairman, CII Tamil Nadu, said: “I feel that it is the responsibility of each citizen to stop using single use plastic. It has been reported that 140 tonne plastic was collected after the recent flood in one location in Chennai. I hope that the Meendum Manjalpai campaign will bring some change to our environment. As, there is a need to minimise single use plastic, Meendum Manjalpai initiative launched by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is a good alternative and this would reduce the plastic pollution and to create a green ecosystem”.
CII looks forward in joining hands with Government of Tamil Nadu through this initiative and take it forward to create a pollution free Tamil Nadu.
